Engines and performance for the Jeep Grand Cherokee
There are two engines available – the most popular will be the excellent 3.0 litre V6 MultiJet II diesel unit. It's a refined engine delivering economy and the Eco mode when driving will boost fuel economy further by altering the idling speed and gear shifting. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic box that offers quick shifting and helps with off-road performance too. Jeep also offers a monster supercharged 6.2 litre V8 engine producing 710 HP but this adds a lot, lot more to the Grand Cherokee's price.
Equipment and handling
Despite the size, the Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a refined on-road driving experience but it really excels when taken off-road - unlike many of its rival SUV's. Part of the reason for the excellent on-road manners is down to the air suspension which makes the driving experience a smooth and enjoyable one and pits it against more expensive competitors. Along with alloy wheels, there are leather-trimmed ventilated front seats and the option of the firm's dual-pane panoramic sunroof which makes the cabin appear even larger and delivers open-air driving. The Grand Cherokee's grip is impressive and it's an agile car to drive around town and on country roads, but it's a superlative motorway cruiser. When taken off-road, switching between driving modes is a cinch with the ability to alter the suspension system and driving modes to suit the terrain, whether that's snow, rock or mud. Along with the firm's Uconnect system with smartphone connectivity, there's an 8-inch high-definition touchscreen offering satnav with 3-D graphics. The digital instrument cluster uses a 7-inch multiview display and there's a top end audio system fitted to enjoy. Essentially, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a large and refined SUV with a lot to offer, including nice handling and impressive off-roading capabilities that many SUV buyers are looking for.
