The Jeep Grand Cherokee is better than the model it replaces and offers lots of space and equipment for an SUV. There's also good handling and high comfort levels too.
There's only one choice of engine for most models, an impressive 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine which should return around 38mpg - which isn't too bad considering the size and weight of the vehicle. The emissions will be 198g/km. However, choose the SRT V8 petrol model and the economy will fall sharply to 20mpg and the CO2 emissions of 327g/km put it in the top tax band for road tax. The engines are coupled to an eight speed automatic gearbox which offers effective and quick dear changes.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the better offerings from this carmaker and has a lot of kit and specification for the money. It's much better than the vehicle it replaces and it offers an impressive off-road driving performance. Indeed, drivers can select one of five off-road driving modes so it can tackle so very tough terrain which puts it alongside some better-known off-roading rivals.
The new model was revamped in 2013 and offers a better experience for European drivers with a more comfortable drive, particularly on long journeys. The seats are large and comfortable and the cabin feels airy and pleasant. There's also the option of air suspension which helps to improve the ride.
Indeed, the Grand Cherokee has taken on some very clever competitors; the roar of the diesel engine at high speed will appeal to many drivers.
There's plenty of space on board for five adults, the cabin could easily accommodate seven seats but doesn't, so everything feels spacious, helped by the glass roof. Passengers will find lots of cubbyholes and storage and there's plenty of space for luggage, particularly when the rear seat are lowered to create 780 litres of space. Thankfully, for a car of this size, reversing cameras have been fitted as standard which helps park what is a very large vehicle.
Essentially, there's a lot to be said for the Jeep Grand Cherokee: it has road presence and the powerful engines are enjoyable with lots of comfort and space in the cabin.
