Engines and performance for the Jeep Cherokee
There's a choice of either a 2.0 litre or 2.2 litre Multijet diesel units available for the Jeep Cherokee with a range outputs. Opt for the 2.2 litre unit producing 195 HP and you'll get decent performance on- and off-road. The 2.2 litre engines are mated to an automatic nine-speed transmission with integrated shifter controls being added to the steering wheel for those models with all-wheel drive. The auto gearbox is smooth and offers quick gear changes - the 2.0 litre engine is coupled to a manual gearbox. The engines also perform well when taken off-road with the 2.2 litre unit delivering torque of 450 Nm and driver confidence is boosted by the specific Jeep Active Drive modes.

For those who need to go off-road or travel on rutted country lanes regularly, then the Jeep Cherokee is a sound choice and the 2019 relaunch seeing its on-road performance levels being drastically improved. There's a high definition 8.4-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity installed as well as improved security and safety systems. They include advanced brake assist, active forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and there's a rear parking camera. There are also 90 accessories available to help customise the Cherokee, one of which is the firm's dual-pane powered sunroof as an option which creates a nice open-air driving experience. The interior has been revamped and has a premium look and feel though it still looks undoubtedly like a Jeep creation with better levels of convenience, comfort and protection than the model it replaced.
