The Jaguar I-Pace is a stylish and well-designed all-electric SUV that is one of the best eco-cars available. It is the European Car of the Year 2019 and a genuine rival in the premium electric vehicle sector with great handling abilities and an impressive list of equipment.
Engines and performance for the Jaguar I-Pace
To deliver the excellent levels of performance, the Jaguar I-Pace uses two electric motors, one on each axle, to produce a total of 394 bhp and torque of 696 Nm. The I-Pace uses a single-speed gearbox and a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers a near 300 mile range. Despite the size, the power is available from a standing start, so the 0 to 62 mph sprint time is an impressive 4.5 seconds and the car's top speed is 124 mph. The charging time with a 7 kW home charger is 10 hours, while a 100 kW charge will do this in 45 minutes.
Equipment and handling
The Jaguar I-Pace is the firm's most high-tech vehicle they have ever produced and includes an impressive infotainment system and over-the-air software updates. There's also artificial intelligence which will adapt to a driver's personal preferences and set these to ensure that infotainment and driving settings are in place before the driver even gets into the vehicle. The I-Pace is an easy SUV to live with; it's agile around town and a very comfortable car for long journeys. There's plenty of space for adults on-board and useful storage areas in the cabin. The boot is 577 litres in size and with the seats folded flat this increases to 1,453 litres. The interior is well-designed and uses premium materials and there's no doubt the occupants are sat in a stylish Jaguar. Essentially, the Jaguar I-Pace is a worthy winner as the Car of the Year and there's a lot to recommend it - when it was launched Jaguar claimed this was ‘the electric car that we had been waiting for’, and it turns out they were right.
