Genesis GV60 in a nutshell

For those who may not be aware, the Genesis brand is the luxury car offshoot of Hyundai, and while the GV60 shares the same underpinnings as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6, Genesis offers a standout electric car that goes to great lengths to impress.

Genesis GV60 - Drivetrains & Performance

Drivetrains

All versions of the Genesis GV60 use the same 77.4kWh battery with a range of up to 321 miles. The entry level model produces 225 bhp to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 7.8 seconds.

That model is only available in rear-wheel drive, but the better spec versions come with all-wheel drive because there’s an extra electric motor on the front axle. This means the Sport delivers 315 bhp while the Sport Plus offers 423 bhp - and a sprint time of four seconds.

There’s also a boost button fitted to the steering wheel that will deliver a 10-second blast of maximum power with a digital cluster display offering a countdown to the fun ending.

The battery is capable of rapid charging that will see it being recharged to 80% of its capacity in 18 minutes, while a home wall box charger will recharge it in around 12 hours.

And as a zero emissions car, it’s a very attractive creation with a very low benefit-in-kind (BiK) tax rate.

Genesis GV60 - EQUIPMENT, SAFETY AND HANDLING

Equipment

Like its two siblings from Hyundai and even Kia, the GV60 is an impressive electric family car, but is ideal for those who want more equipment and luxury. Standard features include two 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment system - which has satnav built-in - and instrument cluster, a reversing camera, 19-inch alloys and LED headlights.

The boot size is 432 litres and with the rear seats folded flat this expands to 1,550 litres. There are 53 litres of space in the bonnet which is smaller in the model’s better spec versions because of the extra electric motor.

However, the real standout feature is the interior which is not only well-designed but also a very smart and comfortable place to spend time. There’s lots of technology that is easy-to-use with plenty of space for everyone onboard. We also liked the crystal sphere in the console that lights up when the doors are unlocked and will rotate when the car is powered up so the driving mode can be selected.

Safety

While the Genesis GV60 has not been crash tested yet by Euro CAP, it is packed with safety features including blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic assist, adaptive cruise control, lane following assist and forward collision assist. Genesis has also added autonomous emergency braking to help the vehicle avoid an impact - and it will detect and avoid pedestrians.

Handling

It’s also worth noting that part of the technology onboard is a battery conditioning system that is like those in rivals including Tesla that will help to keep the battery pack in the best condition when used - and will even raise the pack’s temperature when heading to a rapid charger, so charging is quicker. The cabin is very quiet, even when the car is driven at speed, the suspension deals well with rough roads; the cornering is excellent too.

Summary

Essentially, the Genesis GV60 car lease offers a stylish and futuristic SUV that is packed with equipment, and it makes for a serious contender in an increasingly competitive segment, and it is certainly worth shortlisting for its comfort and refinement levels should you need an EV of this size.
