The small van market is booming and becoming increasingly competitive and Ford wants its Transit Courier to be the major player. Indeed, they've looked at what customers want and have delivered a van with car-like handling which delivers a rewarding drive and has lots of technology and equipment.
There are three engines in the Transit Courier's line-up including the impressive 1.6litre TDCI which will return 76mpg with CO2 emissions of just 97g/km. Even the firm's 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine is more agile and powerful that many potential buyers would believe and should return around 55mpg while the 1.5 litre TDCI unit will return 69mpg. Running costs are also kept low with service intervals set at 20,000.
There's no doubt that the Transit Courier has nice styling and space on board for carrying a Euro pallet; its load space is a useful 2.3cubic metres. Based on the Fiesta platform, it's the firm's smallest van which is also exceptionally well-made. For those who need to carry long items, a folding mesh bulkhead will ensure this is possible and a sliding side door gives excellent access. The load area also has the option of adding LED lighting and there are six tie-down points for cargo and side mounted panels. The maximum payload that the Transit Courier is capable of is 660kg.
Ford also makes a Kombi version of the van which has glazed side doors and three seats in the rear. There's lots of storage on board, a big glovebox and large pockets in the doors as well for maps, clipboards and suchlike. Lots of equipment including the firm's Sync system which allows the driver to receive and make calls hands-free and even read out text messages. Options include parking sensors, rear view camera and hill start assist.
