New Ford Fiesta is impressive
Small car is still great fun to drive
The Ford Fiesta is a hugely popular model in the UK and the new version is impressive to help underpin its successful track record. In addition, this is a small car that is still great fun to drive and it offers a lot for the money.
ENGINES AND PERFORMANCE FOR THE FORD FIESTA
Of the engines for the new Ford Fiesta, the two diesel units consist of a 1.5 litre unit producing either 84 HP or 118 HP and which should return around 88 mpg. The excellent 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol unit is still the main choice with a range of outputs but which should deliver economy of around 65 mpg plus there's a new three-cylinder 1.1 litre petrol unit on offer as well. The engines are mated to either a new six speed manual box with an automatic six-speed option for the 1.0 litre EcoBoost unit.
EQUIPMENT AND HANDLING
The Ford Fiesta is the UK's best-selling car and thankfully the new 2017 version still offers lots of fun behind the wheel. There's also lots of equipment to tempt buyers but it's for the capable and easy driving characteristics that really appeal.
It's also something of a practical choice with a well-designed and well-equipped interior with Ford opting for higher quality materials and more interior colour choices. For those who like a bit more performance, there's the sporty Ford Fiesta ST-Line which adds things like sports seats, a flat bottomed steering wheel and alloy pedals.
There's also more space on board, particularly for those sat in the rear seats with more storage spaces in the cabin and a larger glovebox. The new Fiesta also features Ford’s new pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection system and there is active park assist offered for the first time on the Fiesta.
Of the variants, the Zetec tends to be the most popular choice (it accounts for more than half of sales) with this latest version coming with 15-inch alloy wheels, a ‘QuickClear’ heated windscreen, the firm's Sync3 DAB radio and a 6.5 inch infotainment touchscreen. There's also more connectivity with emergency systems as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard.
There's no doubt that the new Ford Fiesta will continue the firm's success story, which stretches back to 1967, with the new model offering lots of comfort and great performance when driven around town and on motorways at speed; there’s a lot to like about the new model which will impress those who choose it since it is an easy car to live with thanks to the comfortable handling and lots of equipment.
