Overview of the Ford Ecosport

While it may only be a small SUV, the Ford EcoSport has plenty of room for four adults, but it's for the handling which is agile and the nippy performance around town that makes it an interesting proposition. Along with lots of equipment, the EcoSport is an easy car to live with.

Engines and performance for the Ford EcoSport

The Ford EcoSport has a good choice of engines, including the excellent 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol unit with three cylinders. Despite the car's size, the engines deliver sound performance around town, even when the EcoSport is full and it's a reliable performer on motorways. The 1.0 litre engine has a choice of 125PS or 140PS power outputs and there's the choice of a 1.6 litre petrol unit delivering decent levels of fuel economy. There's also a 1.5 litre EcoBlue unit producing either 100PS or 125PS. The engines are mated to either a smooth six-speed manual box or an impressive automatic transmission. Most owners will get to enjoy paddle shifters on some models, usually a feature on high-end vehicles, and the shift indicator helps to save fuel. The engines offer great performance and reliability.

Equipment and handling

The growing demand for the Ford EcoSport saw a revamp in 2018 which included a new body styling kit for the ST-Line and 17-inch alloy wheels. The most popular colour choice for the EcoSport, accounting for 28% of sales, is 'Blue Lightning'. There is also a lot of equipment including a rear view camera to help drivers reverse confidently – there is a good view from the driver’s seat but the camera will help boost confidence, cruise control which features an adjustable speed limiter so the car will not exceed the road speed limit and the firm's impressive Sync3 infotainment system with an intuitive touchscreen. And while the Ford EcoSport is a small SUV, it's a nimble performer around town with lots of comfort for those on board. Essentially, the latest version of the EcoSport is an impressive offering and it's much better than the model it replaces; there's plenty of room, lots of equipment and a responsive drive – it’s also a comfortable vehicle for longer journeys too. For those looking for a compact SUV, then the Ford EcoSport should be on your shortlist.
