Engines and performance for the Fiat 500X

The engine choices for the Fiat 500X consist of three- and four-cylinder turbocharged petrol units. They include a 1.0 litre three-cylinder petrol engine delivering 120 hp and a 1.3 litre unit with four-cylinders producing 150 hp. The smaller engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and the larger engine has the option of a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The entry level model comes with a 1.6 litre petrol engine producing 110 hp.

Equipment and handling

The Fiat 500X is an impressive crossover with a decent equipment list and comfortable handling abilities. There is a lot of space in the cabin with the refreshed exterior featuring daytime running headlights and rear lights. The cabin features more technology and more refinement and is a comfortable place to spend time with safety equipment including intelligent speed assist, traffic sign recognition and lane keeping assist. The 500X also includes Fiat's Uconnect 7-inch HD touchscreen for the infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. There are three trims to choose from and drivers also get to select from seven different interior finishes for the colours and fabrics. There's also a new instrument cluster with easy to read graphics and the steering wheel has been redesigned to fit more comfortably in the driver's hands. Safety options include adaptive cruise control, city brake control and blind spot alert. As crossovers go, there's a lot to recommend the Fiat 500X which has nice exterior and interior styling but it's also a cheap to run car with responsive petrol engines; as a practical family car choice, it deserves to be shortlisted.
