Engines and performance for the Citroen Grand C4 SpaceTourer

The revamp introduced a new engine choice with the 1.2 litre PureTech 130, which is Euro 6.3 compliant. The engine is mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission and will meet the 2021 regulations for passenger cars as well. There are also three diesel engines, ideal choices for those long motorway trips, with two 1.6 litre units producing either 100 hp or 120 hp. They should return around 65 mpg and there's also a more powerful 2.0 litre 150 hp diesel unit available. The engines are mated to either a six-speed manual box or the firm's automatic transmission. All of the engines deliver good responses and a sound performance around town.

Equipment and handling

Citroen did away with various trims for the Grand C4 SpaceTourer to enforce its position as a popular seven-seat MPV. It's still a very comfortable and safe car for owners with the higher spec cars having better levels of equipment. However, even the 'Touch Plus' entry level trim features a 12-inch HD touchscreen complete with satnav and a three-year real-time traffic information subscription. Other models come with a rear parking camera, keyless entry and improved upholstery. There's also active safety brake, speed limit recognition and driver attention alert. The top trim, the 'Flair Plus' will account for around half of the Grand C4 SpaceTourer's sales with active lane departure warning, active cruise control and Xenon headlights with intelligent beam operation. And despite the size, the Grand C4 SpaceTourer is a great car to drive; the driver's view is excellent from the raised seat position and the vehicle is easy to manoeuvre around town. It's also a well-planted and relaxing car to drive over long journeys and the chassis and suspension deal with winding country roads extremely well. As a seven seater, the Citroen Grand C4 SpaceTourer offers an excellent alternative with its futuristic styling and high comfort levels, making it a car to shortlist and enjoy.
