Engines and performance for the C5 Aircross
Launched in 2018, the Citroen C5 Aircross has a range of efficient diesel and petrol engines that are mated to the firm's latest automatic transmission or a manual gearbox. There's a very good 1.2 litre petrol engine producing 130 hp that delivers a responsive ride and economy of 55mpg. While that's a good performer, there's a diesel unit producing 180 hp and returns around 70 mpg. Citroen says a plug-in hybrid C5 Aircross will be available in early 2020, which will deliver greater economy and make it a more attractive proposition to some drivers.
Equipment and handling
The main aim for the Citroen C5 Aircross, unlike many of its rivals, is not to offer a sporty vehicle but a safe and comfortable car that has lots of equipment. Standard kit includes lane departure warning and automatic emergency brake and for those who would like confidence on slippery services, then the option of Citroen's 'grip control' is worth considering. With a supple suspension and very comfortable seats, the C5 Aircross is an ideal family car with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with smartphone connectivity - it also uses voice recognition to control some of the car's features such as the heating. The interior has been well-designed with good use of soft-touch materials. Other models come with satnav and an emergency call and assistance system is fitted as standard. Other standard kit includes collision risk warning, active blind spot monitoring and Citroen's new progressive hydraulic cushions to deliver the comfortable and smooth ride. The digital instrument cluster uses a 12.3-inch screen which is clear and easy to use with the interior delivering a feeling of refinement and protection. Options include the exterior body colours and there are colour packs for the front bumper inserts and the Airbump panels. Essentially, along with lots of equipment and stylish good looks, this is an excellent family car delivering lots of comfort and economy to make it an SUV worth considering.
