Overview of the BMW X7

Engines and performance for the BMW X7

The BMW X7 went on sale in early 2019 with a choice of either two six-cylinder diesel engines or a newly-developed six-cylinder petrol unit. All of the engines are turbocharged and coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission with new control electronics and wider gear ratio spread. The aim of this is to reduce engine speed and boost fuel efficiency. The petrol unit produces 340 hp with torque of 450 Nm and will sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 6.1 seconds with a top speed of 152 mph. Fuel economy is around 33 mpg and the entry-level BMW X7 xDrive30d has a diesel engine producing 265 hp and torque of 620 Nm. Its sprint time is seven seconds with fuel economy of around 45 mpg.

Equipment and handling

The BMW X7 is the firm's most luxurious and largest SUV offering which delivers a refined driving experience. It is also, despite the size, easy-to-use and is packed with equipment and high comfort levels. It seats seven comfortably, with the third row of seats accommodating adults. Along with excellent on-road manners, the X7 is also a surprisingly nimble off-road performer with technology onboard to enjoy track days. The interior is well-designed and made with high-quality materials and plush leather upholstered seats. There's also an excellent infotainment system with a 12-inch screen offering the vehicle's instrument panel. Since this is a large car, there's a 3D view presented of the vehicle's exterior using several cameras along with rear and front sensors to help when parking - though the parking assistant will not only park the car but also reverse it when necessary. Standard equipment for the X7 includes an electrically operated panoramic glass roof - and an excellent 'sky lounge' that features LED lights to recreate a starlit sky. There's also four zone automatic climate control - five zones is an option - and the ambient air package will infuse the interior with various scents. Standard kit also includes the 10 speaker hi-fi system while the M models have various additions including a driver's footrest and pedals, interior trim strips and an M Sport steering wheel. The options list includes electric sun blinds for the windows along with a rear seat entertainment system. Essentially, the BMW X7 is a refined and luxurious offering in what is a large SUV that's more than capable and it is enjoyable to drive but it's also a well-designed and impressive place to spend time in.
