Engines and performance for the BMW 6 Series

Engines for the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo include a 2.0 litre petrol unit with four cylinders that delivers 258 hp and torque of 400 Nm. This power helps to propel the stylish coupe from 0 to 62 mph in 6.3 seconds, with economy of 44 mpg. There's also a 3.0 litre petrol engine available with six cylinders, that's the BMW 640i xDrive, which produces 340 hp with torque of 450 Nm. Its sprint time is 5.3 seconds with fuel economy of 35 mpg. There's also a 3.0 litre diesel unit available producing 265 hp and torque of 620 Nm with fuel economy of 58 mpg for a sprint time of six seconds. All of the engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that is a quick changing unit to deliver the power smoothly.

Equipment and handling

When the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo was refreshed, it came with cutting edge technology and a brand-new look. It's also sleeker and longer than the car it replaced with more space in the cabin. The new model is lighter with improved aerodynamics to boost its on-road capabilities. While there is a long equipment list, options include remote control parking, remote 3-D view and a Wi-Fi hotspot for 10 devices. The GT is essentially a comfortable saloon with coupe looks and it replaced the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. The boot size is a useful 610 litres and when the rear seats are folded flat, this extends to 1,800 litres. There's also an electrically operated tailgate with the boot being easy to load. However, most drivers will be interested in the BMW 6 Series GT for its handling and the self-levelling air suspension system delivers extra comfort. The chassis delivers the fun and there's also an option for active roll stabilisation to boost cornering but overall the GT delivers good grip and it's an enjoyable and rewarding car to drive around town on winding country roads. It's also very comfortable and responsive on long motorway journeys and the air suspension system can be manually lowered by 10 mm to boost its sporty performance in 'Sport' mode. Essentially, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo has been created to deliver exceptional driving pleasure and lots of comfort and refinement to those who want to enjoy a stylish and well-made coupe.
