To help move what is a very large car, the Bentley Mulsanne is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.75 litre V8 producing 505bhp. The power is delivered smoothly and to help boost fuel economy, there's a cylinder deactivation system in place. The 0-62 mph sprint time is an impressive 5.1 seconds - on a par with some well-known performance sports cars. There's a standard automatic gearbox fitted that is a smooth shifter and drivers have gear-shifting paddles fitted to the steering wheel, but there's little need for these. However, the fuel economy is 17 mpg but the overall experience is of a luxurious car that is simply delightful to drive.

While the Bentley Mulsanne is a luxurious offering, it is also, despite its size, surprisingly agile, particularly on winding country roads. The power is delivered effectively with swift acceleration and the steering delivers accurate feedback. The Mulsanne's size means that a driver will need to be confident around town when driving but on motorways its an appealing long-distance cruiser offering lots of comfort and a refined driving experience. Indeed, the cruising is carried out in near silence and the air suspension delivers an impressive ride. There's no doubt that the interior offers an impressive handcrafted experience with extra thick wool carpets and electrically-powered adjustable leather seats. There is lots of room for four people with acoustic glazing fitted to the doors and electric privacy blinds fitted to the rear window. For those who opt for the Mulsanne extended wheelbase, then they get to enjoy reclining rear seats featuring a massage function, a folding picnic table and a champagne glass cabinet. The infotainment system is easy-to-use and there's an impressive climate control system for those sat in the rear seats. The standard kit includes parking distance control, adaptive cruise control, four zone air conditioning and satnav - among a very long list of features. Essentially, the Bentley Mulsanne is a high-performance saloon packed with luxurious touches to deliver a handcrafted motoring experience that is hard to beat.
