Overview of the Audi RS4

Engines and performance for the Audi RS4

The Audi RS4 Avant has one engine choice to deliver the blistering pace and it's a turbocharged 2.9 litre V6 petrol unit producing 444bhp. The 0 to 62 mph time is just 4.1 seconds and its top speed is 155 mph - though there's an option to increase this to 174 mph. Fuel economy is around 30 mpg which will be less should drivers enjoy the responsive engine.

Equipment and handling

The Audi RS4 Avant is not just a practical and quick estate car, it's also a luxurious and comfortable all-rounder that will impress. It has very few direct rivals and as a load-lugger, it is a hard to beat offering. The model was upgraded for 2020 with styling tweaks, new headlights and grille. Around town, the RS4 delivers a refined and rewarding driving experience, the car is composed with the responsive engine delivering fun. The car has little in the way of body lean on winding country roads and the newer, lighter engine helps to deliver the improved handling. It's also a very comfortable car for long motorway journeys with the engine dealing with any over-taking issues easily. The interior has been well crafted and designed and this is an excellent performance car that happens to score highly as a practical family offering. The dynamic ride control is an option which some may find useful to adjust the suspension to meet the driver’s needs when necessary. There are sport seats for the driver and front passenger which offer a cosseting experience and the virtual cockpit is an easy-to-use and impressive offering utilising a 12.3-inch digital screen. Standard equipment includes Bluetooth connectivity, satnav and smartphone connection. Other models have larger alloys, a black exterior trim and carbon fibre interior. The range topper features an impressive panoramic sunroof and adaptive suspension along with a top end sound system. Safety features for the Audi RS4 include the firm's parking system plus multi-collision brake assist and pre-sense city braking. There's also the driver assistance pack as an option which adds automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and traffic sign recognition. There is plenty of space with a boot that measures 505 litres so the RS4 can carry large items or lots of luggage without sacrificing speed or performance. Essentially, for those who need the practicality of owning an estate car that is capable of carrying large loads and family members in safety, but need a car that delivers an astonishing turn of speed when required, then the Audi RS4 merits closer inspection.
