There's just one engine for the Audi RS Q3 in the shape of a turbocharged 2.5 litre petrol unit with five cylinders which is mated to a quick-changing seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It produces 395bhp to deliver a sprint time of 4.5 seconds to get from 0 to 62 mph. The RS Q3 has its top speed restricted to 155 mph. The car also features the firm's quattro all-wheel drive system to deliver the power to all four wheels and deliver the grip for driving confidence. Fuel economy is around 30 mpg but will be less if you enthusiastically enjoy the responsive engine. Emissions are 223g/km.

Equipment and handling

While the SUV market in the UK is growing quickly, for those who want better levels of performance then the Audi RS Q3 should be on your shortlist. The five-cylinder engine delivers a burbling soundtrack and the restricted top speed of 155 mph can be increased to 174 mph as an option. To help enjoy the responsive engine performance, there's adaptive damping on the top models which can be altered to suit the driver's own style and needs. The RS Q3 is a comfortable car to drive around town and the suspension deals with potholes and rough roads effectively and there's little in the way of body lean when cornering at speed. The driver's view is excellent and it's a great performer on long motorway journeys. The interior has been well-designed with extensive use of premium materials and standard kit includes satnav, alloy wheels and LED headlights. Other models feature larger alloys, a panoramic glass sunroof that creates a very airy cabin and a sports exhaust. The top spec versions of the RS Q3 have a driver assistance pack and a premium sound system. Options include a rear view camera, ceramic brakes and raising the car's top speed. Safety equipment for the Audi RS Q3 includes lane departure warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection as well as traffic sign recognition. The top models also feature Audi's driver assistance pack which includes adaptive speed assist and 360° cameras. The RS Q3 was revamped in late 2019 with the addition of two new high-performance models. Essentially, the Audi RS Q3 is an excellent compact SUV with impressive levels of performance and very high comfort levels; there's a lot to recommend it as a practical family car - especially as a car with blistering speed abilities.
