Overview of the Toyota GR86

There’s no doubt that the Toyota GR86 car lease model will be a popular choice thanks to its excellent levels of performance, at an affordable price, though numbers heading to the UK are restricted.

Why choose a Toyota GR86?

The engine for the GR86 has been boosted to 2.4-litres and it delivers 231 bhp with torque of 250Nm. There’s a lot of power, and since the body has been stiffened with lots of high tensile steel, drivers get a car with a low centre of gravity for delivering driving thrills.

The 0 to 62 mph sprint time is just over six seconds, with a top speed of 140 mph. Fuel economy is around 32 mpg, with emissions of 200g/km. The GR86 with the automatic transmission takes slightly longer for its 0 to 62 mph sprint time.

The GR86 offers keen handling with responsive performance than previously to deliver a car that grips and is almost a nostalgic tribute to sports cars from years gone by. Available with a track mode, the Toyota car lease model really shows its performance when cornering at speed.

Toyota GR86 in a nutshell

Leasing a Toyota GR86 is an easy process with the chassis being reinforced so its rigidity is boosted by 60% without adding weight so drivers get to enjoy the engine’s power. A lot of the performance is down to Toyota’s in-house team at Gazoo Racing – hence the moniker - and this 2+2-seater coupe with a front engine and rear-wheel drive delivers the thrills.

What to expect when you lease a Toyta GR86

The power is delivered using a five-speed gearbox, a six-speed automatic transmission is an option, but it’s a short throw to deliver revs and speed. There are some similarities with the Subaru BRZ, a car developed in conjunction with the GR86, with similar levels of handling.

The GR86 car lease model offers a simple interior that is comfortable and functional. This is a car priced for entry-level sporting thrills so don’t expect a long equipment list.

There’s just one choice of model available and it comes with an 8.0-inch multimedia display that is smartphone compatible. Toyota has added a reversing camera with rear cross traffic alert, illuminated entry, LED adaptive headlights and blind spot monitoring. There’s also a 7.0-inch colour information display.

Drivers also get cruise control, heated front seats, automatic dual-zone air-conditioning, leather and Ultrasuede seat upholstery, automatic folding door mirrors and push-button start. Safety features include a pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and automatic high beam assistance.

The GR86 is also comfortable to drive around town and over long distances but really comes alive on winding country roads or the track. It’s also a quiet cabin to spend time in - quieter than many rivals.

The steering also offers precision and there’s little in the way of body lean with the tyres delivering a comfortable amount of grip. There’s not too much space in the rear seats for adults and there are a few cubby holders around the cabin. The boot size is 226 litres, and the rear seats will fold flat to create more space.

The GR86 hasn’t been crash tested yet by Euro NCAP, and it’s unlikely to do so because it won’t sell in significant numbers, but the list of safety equipment does bring reassurance.

Essentially, the Toyota GR86 car lease model is one of the last true sports cars available as crash testing criteria gets tighter but there’s still a lot to like about the style and handling of a car that is determined to go out in style.
