Designed from scratch, there are no diesel or petrol versions available for the Honda e, and this is the firm's first battery-powered electric vehicle which uses a bespoke platform along with rear-wheel drive.
Both versions of the car use a 35.5kWh battery that is used to power an electric motor. Depending on the trim chosen, the motor has different power outputs of either 134 bhp or 152bhp.

All of this power is available from a standing start, so the e can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just nine seconds. The Advance model has a quicker acceleration time of just over eight seconds, with a top speed of 90 mph.
HONDA E HANDLING
The Honda e is a compact electric vehicle, or EV, so it's ideal for driving in towns. The rear-wheel drive delivers easy handling, and the car has a very tight turning circle.
This car is easy to live with; it's great on winding country roads, and there is little in the way of body lean to enjoy this EV when being put through its paces. There are various driving modes, perhaps too many for a car that will spend most of its time in built-up areas, but the Sport function does sharpen the accelerator response quite nicely.
Honda E Interior & Exterior
And while the exterior has a certain retro charm, the interior is nothing short of brilliant and futuristic. There are display screens stretching from one side of the small car to the other, so does not feel or look like other cars at all, other than having a steering wheel. There is a wood trim to deliver a classy appearance, plus an HDMI port so you can – should you ever want to - plug a games console into the dashboard.
The interior has been well-designed with good use of high-quality materials, and it's a very pleasant place to spend time. It's definitely more upmarket than many rivals with two infotainment screens, and an 8.8-inch display for the digital instrument cluster and two screens show what is behind you (these effectively replace a car's traditional wing mirrors and are easy to use).
There are just two trims, but the standard equipment list will meet most driver's needs, including automatic LED headlights, a rear view camera, a panoramic sunroof and heated front seats.
HONDA E EQUIPMENT
The Advance trim includes an automatic parking system, a heated steering wheel, more safety equipment, an improved audio system plus the digital rearview mirror. There's an options list as well including ambient lighting, leather upholstery and larger wheels.
The safety kit for the Honda e includes lane-keeping assistance, cyclist and pedestrian detection, traffic sign recognition and should the car be involved in an accident; it will contact the emergency services automatically.
Essentially, the Honda e looks and drives like a concept car that has become a reality; it's an excellent electric vehicle, and for contract hire purposes, it's an impressive and well-built car to enjoy on a daily basis.
