The C4 Picasso is a good-looking MPV which makes for a great family car. It's also cheap to run to with a wide range of engines.
As usual with Citroen, there's an excellent range of diesel and petrol engines available for the C4 Picasso though the choice would probably be for the impressive entry-level 1.4 litre eHDi90 which should return around 74 mpg on the combined fuel cycle while having CO2 emissions of just 98g/km. This engine is, apparently, the most efficient diesel in the sector and there's also a slightly more powerful 1.6 litre eHDi115 which has economy of around 71 mpg.
With its innovative design, the C4 Picasso continues the carmaker's trend of producing ground-breaking people carriers that manage to set new standards in performance and spec. The new version has lots more space on board than its predecessor with a cutting edge design that is unmistakably Citroen and it's highly likely that this too will also be around in large numbers in years to come. As usual, there are some really great design ideas in the cabin of the C4 Picasso including a novel trait to have the passenger seat fold flat to create a load length of 2.5 metres should anyone need to place long items into their vehicle. Indeed, the boot is a massive 537 litres. The entry-level model has a limited standard equipment list but other C4 Picasso models come with parking sensors, 12-inch touchscreen and satnav while the top spec models have front massaging seats, parking assistance and keyless entry and start.
The driving position for the C4 Picasso is excellent, it's quite high so there's excellent visibility of the road ahead and what's going on around coupled with the fact that there's lots of glass which makes the cabin itself bright and airy. It’s also a very safe car to drive having scored full marks in the Euro NCAP crash tests and it's also fitted with intelligent traction control, ABS and electronic brake force distribution. There's also emergency braking assistance should the car detect an imminent collision. Citroen have also tweaked the gearbox to be more responsive and smooth and it helps to create a very pleasant and comfortable drive, the suspension is soft to deal with potholes and it's an excellent performer on country roads and motorways.
