There isn’t really a lot you can do in a truly bad traffic jam is there?

Personally, I like to bang my hands off the steering wheel in a really annoying way which always causes my wife to lose her temper and tell me to shut up. At this point things usually degenerate and the will to live evaporates a few minutes later…

It’s been a while since I’ve been in a really stinking, horrible, are-we-ever-going-to-get-out-of-here-alive traffic jam. I remember a few bad ones when I lived in London, although I always seem to come across the worst ones in places like Stevenage where I was just expecting to scoot through without any hassle.

Never Ending Jams for a Child

As a kid traffic jams seemed to be worse actually, although I am guessing that this is a trick of my memory, as there are a lot more cars around these days. I clearly recall sitting for hours in a traffic jam on the way to my Gran’s house and almost dying of starvation. It may only have been 5 minutes now that I think about it.

The reason I have been reminiscing is not because I am planning to write a book about “My Favourite Traffic Jams and What They Taught Me About Life”. No, I was just reading about the possible new Ford which takes over control of steering and braking when there is traffic at a standstill ahead.

That would be great, wouldn’t it? You could put it onto auto pilot and drop off for a snooze. It would be even better if I didn’t tell my wife that I had this option and I just closed my eyes while she started going on about my annoying banging on the steering wheel. That would soon get her attention. It seems that this technology could be with us in 5 years.
