It’s in the showrooms from October. It will cost £45,000…

…but there will only be 3,500 models of the new Alfa Romeo super car

The new Alfa Romeo 4C is unveiled

The Alfa Romeo 4C is an all-carbon-fibre creation that has been designed by Alfa but which will be built by Maserati at their Modena plant.

Alfa says its 4C is a return to lightweight sports coupés for them and they have used advanced materials and construction methods to ensure lightness and rigidity.

Essentially the Alfa Romeo 4C is a compact and agile car that will delight petrolheads everywhere.

Make no mistake, the Alfa Romeo 4C turns in supercar performance with impressive economy and emissions and is a decent salute to the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale; one of the best looking cars ever made.

Mid-engined Alfa Romeo 4C impresses

The mid-engined Alfa Romeo 4C deploys the latest technologies with the new, all-aluminium 1750cc turbo petrol engine; the latest-generation Alfa TCT dry twin clutch transmission and the Alfa DNA driving mode selector (which, fortunately for the buyers of this model now comes with a ‘Race’ mode).

The engine will produce 350Nm of torque and 240bhp and it’s only short at just 2.4 metres in length.

It’s also only a tad heavier than the Lotus Elise at 895kg which is due to the extensive use of carbon fibre in its construction. Designers have used the F1-inspired construction of creating a one-piece monocoque body.

Frugal Alfa Romeo 4C hits 160mph

The Alfa Romeo 4C will reach 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds and its top speed is 160 mph but perhaps its most impressive attribute is the fact that its economy is around 41mph on the combined fuel economy run, thanks mainly to its lightweight construction.

Drivers will benefit from its double-wishbone front suspension and Alfa have tuned the exhaust to have a full ‘rich sound’. They have also toyed with the seats so the driver ‘feels’ the car’s movement and can react accordingly.

The interior of the Alfa Romeo 4C is fairly bare with a bespoke steering wheel with integrated paddle gear shifters. There’s also composite bucket seats and aluminium pedals to complete the minimalistic look.

Though orders are being taken for the Alfa Romeo 4C from next month, deliveries won’t be until early next year.
