It’s just been relaunched by the German car firm who are praising its outstanding safety and handling characteristics.

Among the new features for the Mercedes G Class are an improved interior, leather seats, improved driving assistance systems, a new suspension and LED headlamps.

The spare wheel is still exposed on the rear door and the vehicle’s indicator lights are still prominent.

The new Mercedes G Class 500 also offers a new bi-turbo engine with a 4.0 litre V8 petrol unit under the bonnet producing 422 bhp.

To help control the power of the new vehicle it features the firm’s 9G-Tronic automatic transmission which features a torque converter to specifically adapt to the changing needs of the road.

Mercedes says the new gearbox not only delivers a quieter and more comfortable driving experience but it also boosts fuel consumption.

One reason to spend so much money on an impressive vehicle is for its off-roading capabilities with steep slopes dealt with comfortably across a range of surfaces. This is, in part, to the higher ground clearance between the axles.

Mercedes say the G Class will be stable when tilted at angles of 35°.

There are no prices or specification details for excellent new Mercedes G Class for UK buyers yet but it will be available from the summer and in Germany it will cost from €107,000.
