There are also two new TDI ‘clean’ diesel engines as well as three TFSI units which are more frugal than the previous engine range.

The SUV now includes the 1.4litre TFSI CoD which is now 13% more efficient than the engine it replaces. The CoD stands for ‘cylinder-on-demand’ technology which is a feature of the Audi A1 and A3 ranges.

The engine is coupled to the choice of manual or the firm’s S tronic twin clutch auto transmission and which will see the Q3 go from 0 to 62 mph in 8.9 seconds. It should also return around 50 mpg.

The Audi Q3 has excellent performance

Of the petrol units, there’s an impressive 2.5 litre five cylinder TFSI variant which is fitted exclusively to the RS Q3.

This engine will power the SUV from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds, that’s faster than the 5.2 seconds of the current model, while owners should see economy of around 33 mpg.

Handling has also been improved and the new Audi Q3 has a redesigned chassis and the adaptive dynamic system, which was an option previously, is now fitted as standard which means that the driver can opt for various damper controls.

There’s also LED headlights, 8 inch alloy wheels and the interior has been seriously enhanced by designers to be a comfortable and impressive place to be.
