The revamped BMW X6 is an impressive offering with improved handling.

When it was launched nearly 10 years ago, the BMW X6 offered a new car category with the ‘sports activity coupe’.

Essentially, BMW blended the look of a classical coupe with the attributes of a 4×4.

The X6 has been a popular choice since then, though it’s doubtful that most owners will have used the 4×4 abilities by going off-road – which is a shame because it’s a decent performer.

Now, the refreshed design offers improved chassis technology and better powertrains.

Engines for the BMW X6

Among the engines for the BMW X6 is an impressive V8 4.4 litre petrol unit that’s been newly developed for the excellent M50i flagship.

There’s a choice of two petrol engines and two diesel units from BMW’s latest generation of engines.

The entry-level model, the X6 xDrive 30d will sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 143 mph. Economy for the engine is around 47 mpg.

For those who want power and performance, the X6 M50i will deliver a sprint time of 4.3 seconds, which is impressive considering the size and weight of the vehicle, and a top speed of 155 mph. Torque from the engine is 750 Nm and fuel economy is around 28 mpg.

The BMW X6 has dynamic damper control fitted as standard to deliver a comfortable ride and also boost driving characteristics. It also makes driving off-road much easier.

The car also features two-axle suspension with automatic self-levelling and the vehicle load is taken into account by the sensors to help with braking.

For those who want to take the X6 off-roading, the option delivers under-guard protection and a rear differential lock to help deal with slippery surfaces.

Other standard kit for the X6 includes cruise control as well as pedestrian warning and city braking function.

For better levels of safety, the optional driving assistant professional includes steering and lane control assist and active side collision protection.

Other standard equipment includes park assist control so drivers can manoeuvre into a parking space automatically.

The BMW X6 offers lots of comfort and it’s a stylish package with the option of an illuminated BMW kidney grille to help you stand out from the crowd.

With three variants to choose from, they all have lots of impressive equipment and it is still a great car to drive both on- and off-road.
