Audi S: New models unveiled

It’s a marque no longer seen as the ‘poor man’s BMW’ and now Audi are to cement their leading position with some new ‘S’ models.

There will be four added to the Audi S line-up and they’ll have the impressive high-performance new eight-cylinder bi-turbo V8 engine.

Audi says the new engine has ‘cylinder on demand’ technology and a host of other advances.
Breaking down the Audi blurb this means that the engine features a new cylinder deactivation system that disengages four of the eight cylinders under part load to maximise fuel efficiency.

As a result fuel economy is boosted by as much as 25 per cent compared to the V10 predecessor.

Though, when you look at the figures, that’s a rather less than impressive ‘up to’ 29mpg.

Petrolheads will be pleased to hear that the Audi S6 will do 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds; the Audi S6 Avant will do 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds. Both motors have their top speed limited to 155mph.

Audi is also boasting about its noise cancellation technology in its Audi S range which will cancel out noise from outside the cabin. I’ve been on long road trips when I could have done with that technology to drown out the noise inside the cabin!

Audi S fans can start getting their orders in from next month for delivery in July.

Wallets will be hit by £53,995 for the S6 to £77,900 for the S8 – though check out the leasing packages available to see how much you could save!
