The impressive new Honda HR-V is the latest vehicle to enter the competitive crossover segment and it has a winning combination.

Indeed, Honda hails its new car as a ‘new generation’ for the subcompact SUV market and they are right.

There’s enough here to attract buyers with an engaging drive and a versatile interior.

The cabin has been well designed and it’s been put together with robust materials to make it a great choice for families.

In addition, it comes with a choice of efficient engines – the 1.6litre i-Dtec which produces 120PS and the 1.5litre i-Vtec which produces 130PS.

Honda HR-V’s diesel engine will return 74mpg

The diesel unit will return 74mpg and has emissions of 104g/km while the petrol engine will return 54mpg and have emissions of 120g/km.

There are high hopes for the Honda HR-V – the firm says two-thirds of buyers will be snatched from other marques in the MPV segment. The car goes on sale late this summer.

Not only is the cabin large, the boot is also the biggest in its class at 453litres with the seats upright and 1,026litres when they are folded flat.

The Honda HR-V is also a quiet car – the insulation is impressive and includes treating the inner wheel arches with a sound absorbing material.

The car also has a panoramic glass sunroof and a seven-inch touchscreen for the new infortainment system which also has internet connectivity.

Buyers have the choice of three trims; the top spec has full leather upholstery.

There’s a lot of thought and lots of new design ideas gone into creating the Honda HR-V and safety kit includes a low speed city brake active system and an advanced driver assisting system.

This system utilises radar and cameras at the front and rear to detect potential collisions and obstacles.

There are five elements that are active including intelligent speed limiter, traffic sign recognition and lane departure warning.

Options for the new Honda HR-V stretch to a series of packs which add either exterior kit, safety equipment, better interior ambient lighting and additions to boost the car’s longevity.

In addition, there are a number of other options to suit a buyer’s tastes including dog guards and Honda 3D sound.
