The Land Rover Discovery 4 is head and shoulders better than the vehicle it replaced but then it's up against some very stiff competition. This is a luxury 4x4 that's not afraid to get its tyres muddy and it has excellent off-road capabilities - wherever the driver wants to go then this car will get them there. The interior is well designed and consists of high quality components with high levels of comfort marking the cabin out from its rivals. One of the few downsides to the Land Rover Discovery 4 is that it's not that frugal to run and some may find its size tricky to manoeuvre in tight parking spots.
This impressive vehicle is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine which is not only powerful but quiet too. Unfortunately, it only returns 32mpg but this is a large and heavy vehicle so economy is never going to impress. There have been questions over the Discovery's reliability in recent years and though the firm has taken steps to improve matters, owners should be aware that the 4x4 system is complicated (though easy to use) and should it go wrong there could be a hefty bill to follow. Perhaps leasing might be the key since these issues are factored into the monthly payment. Indeed, the car's 'All Terrain System' helps the driver when off-road and it does a fantastic job. The system will help in just about any type of terrain or weather conditions.
The Land Rover Discovery 4 is a popular car in the secondhand market as buyers love the standard of luxury that comes with this great car; at low speeds there's no noise and it handles like a premium level car. Needless to say there's loads of space inside for everyone plus luggage. There's actually seven seats on board and the rear seats fold flat to create a large boot. The dashboard looks impressive and has a dual-view screen set in the centre of it. This means that while the driver can watch the satnav, the passengers can watch a DVD on the separate screen (which the driver can't see).

The Land Rover Discovery 4 feels well-built and solid and it has done well in the Euro NCAP safety tests to score five stars. It's a great car and the fears over reliability might not be well-founded but there's no doubting that the Land Rover Discovery 4 is among the pick of luxury off-roaders.
