Driving tips for Leeds

Leeds, located in West Yorkshire, England, is a vibrant city known for its rich history, cultural attractions, and bustling city center. The main system to be aware of is the Leeds City Centre Loop, two miles of a one-way system with 18 “Junctions.”

There are plenty of ongoing improvements to the road network within Leeds City Center, so allow additional time for journeys. Leeds Corn Exchange is a Grade I listed building and a symbol of the city's commercial heritage; this has recently been pedestrianised and is a good example of the “Connecting Leeds” strategy.

Three park-and-ride schemes are in operation, with buses leaving every 10 mins.

  • Elland Road P&R 1,358 parking slots Sat nav: LS11 0EB.
  • Temple Green P&R 1,391 parking slots Sat nav: LS9 0AA
  • Stourton P&R 1,200 parking s lots Sat Nav: LS10 1FF

If you decide to drive in the center, be aware of the numerous bus lanes and their restrictions, Lane usage times are well signed and enforced by cameras, and fixed penalty notice fines are heavy.

  • There can be a termination fee should you want to exit your contract early.
  • If the price of road tax increases, you will have to pay the difference.

Leed's Clean Air Driving Zones

The Leeds CAZ was due to be re-launched on March 6, 2021, after a  delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was to cover a large area within the outer ring road of Leeds, and it would have affected mainly high-polluting vehicles, including buses, coaches, taxis, private hire vehicles, and HGVs (heavy goods vehicles). It was unpopular because it was to apply 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including weekends and bank holidays.

However, the whole project was scrapped when further research showed that most traffic flowing through Leeds was cleaner than first thought. Sceptics think its unpopularity meant the scheme was not robust enough to go through the legal courts.
