Engines and performance for the Scenic
Power for the Renault Scenic consists of either a 1.3 petrol engine that is a nice performer around town and a more powerful 1.7 litre diesel unit that is excellent for motorway cruising. Fuel economy is around 47 mpg for the petrol engines, while the diesel units return 58 mpg.
Equipment and handling
The Renault Scenic created the popular MPV segment when it was first launched and while many people, particularly families, are looking towards compact SUV's, there is still a lot to like about this people carrier. While it has some SUV design characteristics, it's still a spacious and well-made car and standard equipment includes air conditioning, electric windows and all models feature automatic emergency braking. It's also a safe car to drive with Euro Ncap awarding it five stars in crash testing. The latest model is wider and longer than the vehicle it replaced, so there's more space onboard and there's a sizeable boot, under-seat storage and cubbyholes dotted around the cabin. There's plenty of space for five people onboard and for those who need seven seats, then the Renault Grand Scenic is the car for you. The latest version is much improved on the model it replaced with better engines and more equipment with a very stylish cabin that is a pleasant place to spend time. Handling around town is comfortable and the view from the driver's seat is excellent. The suspension deals well with rough roads and potholes and it's a stable offering when driving at speed on long motorway journeys. Indeed, Renault has created an MPV for families and for those who like a spacious practical car that is safe to own and nice to drive - the Scenic really is a sound alternative for those who may be tempted to move into an SUV.
