There's just one engine to deliver the superlative levels of roadster performance in the Mazda MX-5. The 1.5 litre Skyactive engine produces 132 PS and is mated to a six-speed manual box. There's no automatic choice. Fuel consumption is around 45 mpg with emissions of 138g/km.

The MX-5 is also well-equipped and along with alloy wheels, there is LED headlights, traction control, air conditioning, remote central locking and lots of airbags. Stability control is also fitted as a standard feature. The main aim for the Mazda MX-5 - and the reason why it is still winning awards for being the best sports car - is that it delivers an exciting driving experience with a great engine and plenty of grip to make this the sports car to beat. It's also a lot cheaper than its rivals and the overall impression is of a driver-focused car that's ticks just about every box. Essentially, the Mazda MX-5 is a two-door sports car with not a lot of room on board for luggage, but it's a car that delivers on every level for those who will be buying with their heart to enjoy a fizzy driving machine.
