The Hyundai Santa Fe was relaunched in 2019 with lots of best in-class safety features and seven seats. This is the fourth generation of the popular vehicle and there's plenty of space for those who need it.

Engines and performance for the Hyundai Santa Fe

There's just one choice of diesel engine for the Hyundai Santa Fe, a 2.2 litre unit that produces 200 PS and torque of 440 Nm. This helps the Santa Fe with its impressive levels of ability and the engine can be mated with a six-speed manual box or a brand-new eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine is also available with front wheel drive or a 4WD drivetrain. The automatic transmission has 'drive mode logic' to boost engine response times and help with control when cornering. Economy is a respectable 48 mpg with emissions of around 158g/km.

Equipment and handling

The Hyundai Santa Fe is a large vehicle with lots of space and there's room enough for seven seats and a long equipment list includes privacy glass, rear view camera and climate control. There's also automatic windscreen wipers, smartphone connectivity as well as cruise control and autonomous emergency braking. Opt for the automatic gearbox and drivers will have smart cruise control as well as an electric parking brake. Other equipment includes keyless entry, an electrically operated tailgate, an 8-inch touchscreen and a 10-speaker sound system. There's also a satnav and even a rear occupancy alert so the driver will be alerted should they inadvertently leave behind a pet or children in the rear seats. It may even be worth considering the top of the range Santa Fe which adds larger alloy wheels, ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof. There's also a head-up display so the driver can see relevant vehicle information projected onto the windscreen. The driver's view is excellent of the road ahead and despite the size there's little in the way of body roll and the engine is a smooth and responsive performer. It's also a great car to drive around town but it really excels on motorways for long journeys. For those who need the space and the ability to go off-road with a well-equipped and comfortable vehicle, then the Hyundai Santa Fe is a sound choice.
