Overview of the BMW X6

Engines and performance for the BMW X6

The latest generation of the BMW X6 has a choice of two diesel or two petrol engines and all are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. The firm's intelligent all-wheel drive system, the xDrive, is also standard to deliver the power effectively. Opt for the 3.0 litre diesel engine producing 265 hp and torque of 600 Nm and this model will achieve a 0 to 62 mph sprint time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 143 mph. Fuel economy is around 46 mpg. The 3.0 litre petrol engine producing 340 hp and torque of 450 Nm will do the sprint in 5.5 seconds and onto a restricted top speed of 155 mph. Fuel economy is around 35 mpg. For those interested in the M50d range-topper, then the engine produces 400 hp with incredible peak torque of 760 Nm and it will achieve the same sprint in 5.2 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph and fuel consumption of 41 mpg.

Equipment and handling

The new BMW X6 features impressive driving dynamics which are underpinned by dynamic damper control for a comfortable ride and there's a driving experience control to opt for a 'comfort' or 'sporting' biased driving experience. Some models come with active roll stabilisation and active steering to improve agility as well as directional stability for cornering at speed. This system sees the rear wheels turning in either the same or opposite direction as at the front to deliver sharper cornering ability. The BMW X6 also comes with an optional off-road package to add rugged under-guard components plus two-axle air suspension and a rear differential lock with four driving modes to cover slippery surfaces. As should be expected, the X6 is packed with driver assistance systems to keep everything safe and stable including cruise control with brake function, city braking function and pedestrian and cyclist detection. Traffic sign recognition has been added with the options of lane keeping assist and traffic jam assistant. With this safety package, when the driver indicates they are switching lanes, the X6 will then move across automatically into the lane safely. Since it's a large car, the X6 features parking assistant as standard, plus there's the 'intelligent personal assistant' which will learn the driver's habits and their favourite settings for future use. There's a lot to like about the BMW X6; it's a well-designed and solid built SUV coupe that is packed with equipment and it's a comfortable and great car to drive.
