Engines and performance for the Audi RS5

The Audi RS5 is powered by a 2.9 litre twin-turbocharged unit delivering 444bhp of power to all four wheels using an eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine will return around 30 mpg and delivers a 0 to 62 mph sprint time of just 3.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, though in some models this can be raised to 174 mph.

Equipment and handling

Along with its sharp looks, the Audi RS5 is a fast and easy to drive coupe that delivers a lot of fun behind the wheel. The RS versions have been produced by Audi now for more than 20 years and this version is much quicker than the S5 sibling. The RS5 was facelifted in 2019 with the addition of some styling touches and extra kit. The base model features contrasting silver bodywork detailing and 19-inch alloy wheels. Other trims have larger 20-inch alloy wheels and aluminium or black contrasting trim on the bodywork. The RS5 features a classic and premium looking interior with plush leather sport seats cosseting the driver and passenger. There's a new 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen that is easy-to-use and is a classy offering. The cabin also features Audi's excellent virtual cockpit display to replace the analogue dials and switches. Satnav is also standard and utilises Google Earth imagery on a high res screen. Out on the road, the steering delivers good feedback and it's a great car to drive around town. It's also a very comfortable motorway cruiser, but it really comes into its own on winding country roads where the all-wheel quattro offering, the suspension and the chassis combine to deliver a stable and enjoyable driving experience. There's little in the way of body roll and the engine delivers revs when necessary. The automatic gearbox offers nice ratios to deliver smooth operation. There are various driving modes to select that will sharpen up the throttle and gearbox while the comfort mode delivers a more refined driving experience. For this level of supercar performance, the Audi RS5 delivers an accomplished and impressive coupe performance in what is an easy to drive but also incredibly fast coupe. The RS5 offers an all-round exciting driver's package that most will enjoy.
