Ford FIESTA Review
FORD FIESTA

Which Ford Fiesta is Ideal for You?

The Ford Fiesta is a front-engine, front-wheel drive 5dr hatchback manufactured by Ford since 1976. It is now in its 7th generation and is due to be discontinued in June 2023;

However, its popularity still makes it one of Britain’s most loved small hatchbacks, with over 4 million units sold, making it the UK’s best-selling car, and new cars are still available to lease.

Disclaimer: Please note that the specifications listed below were correct at the time of writing and based on availability. Specs and availability should always be checked before agreeing to our leasing deals.

EcoBoost Hybrid Power Shift

The EcoBoost hybrid power shift is a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission system that helps to reduce CO2 emissions and running costs. It is available in all mild hybrid versions.

Seven-speed gear ratios, low-weight design and advanced dual-clutch operation all work together To deliver a smooth, seamless gear change. This technology is particularly effective in stop-start city driving.

Digital Cluster Touch Screen

Ford’s new 12.3” digital instrument cluster displays information in high definition using easy-to-read icons. You can customise the display to include navigation alerts and program the preferred pre-sets of individual drivers.

Also, the current models have eight different variants starting the Trend with entry-level, the popular Titanium, the higher specified Active and the sportier ST. The ST-Line X and the Active X have an advanced interior and feature part Sensico® seats.

Motor Sport

Two Ford Fiestas made an impact at the 1979 Monte Carlo rally. Both cars were highly modified versions of the Ford Fiesta MK1 XR2 using the cars tuned 1.6 litres Kent cross-flow engine; although the cars did not win, they performed well in the race, which led to interest and demand for sportier Fiestas.

Hot hatch versions of these cars were introduced, including the Supersport XR2, XR2i, Zetec S, the Zetec RS, and the ST. The engines that power all these cars come from Ford Kent or Ford Duratec.

The Fiesta Sporting Trophy is a one-make championship that began in 2006 and allows competition with equal performance cars using the Fiesta ST group car and the Duratec 165bhp engine.

In 2009 Ford unveiled a Ford Fiesta S2000 Mk 6. Ford intended to compete in the Super 2000 World Rally championships (WRC). The Fiesta has competed successfully since that date and produced some iconic Fiesta WRC cars, especially amongst privateers, due to its good driveability, availability and always reasonably priced.

In a recent newspaper article, an insider at Ford said that “the Fiesta has been a beloved icon and faithful friend for millions of drivers, but unfortunately, tastes are changing; people are moving towards electric high-riding crossovers”.

When the Fiesta was first launched in the summer of 1976, it cost £1,856 and was built in Dagenham, Essex; today’s models are all built in Cologne, Germany; it was introduced as a result of the 1973 oil crises; the change to electrified bigger cars has seen an end of an era, the party is over, adios amigo.

The Ford Fiesta is still a popular UK car with great looks and the latest technology; The Fiesta is still an excellent affordable choice.

From a personal lease point of view, it has excellent residual values, often meaning you can get a higher specification model than you first may realise and a better all-around leasing deal.
