BMW X3 is a premium SUV
New model delivers technology and dynamic performance
The BMW X3 is a premium SUV that's been a popular choice since it was first unveiled in 2003. The new model delivers a car that's packed with technology and offers dynamic performance with stylish good looks.
ENGINES AND PERFORMANCE FOR THE BMW X3
The new generation of BMW X3 has the choice of a new 2.0 litre petrol engine along with the familiar diesel offering. For those drivers wanting better performance, then the 3.0 litre straight six diesel unit producing 258bhp will meet their needs as this will reach 62 mph in less than six seconds - that's a better performance than some hot hatches. BMW has also improved its eight speed StepTronic transmission for smoother and quicker changes and its all-wheel drive system, the xDrive to deliver better grip. There's also a new M performance X3 available which comes with a 3.0 litre engine producing 360bhp and will reach 62 mph in 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.
EQUIPMENT AND HANDLING
The third generation was unveiled in 2017 and the all-new model is an impressive creation - it has to be since the X3 has sold more than 1.5 million units since it was first unveiled in 2003. The new model is also the first to get an M Performance option with the BMW X3 M40i.
There's also the firm's new CoPilot system which utilises the ‘driving assistant plus’ safety package and active cruise control among other features which help make it one of the safest cars in its class. While the new BMW X3 retains its rugged off-road looks it is now a more technologically and dynamically competent SUV while having a premium image. The interior is nothing short of impressive with an ergonomically designed cockpit that is driver-focused along with the use of quality materials the finish is a class above the X3’s main SUV competitors.
Standard equipment for the X3 includes three zone automatic climate control and there is also an acoustic windscreen to reduce noise levels and the option to have the same glazing for the side windows. While there is a lot of equipment, the options list includes a panoramic glass sunroof and an impressive BMW display key that owners of the 5 and 7 Series cars will know and love. The key itself has a display which reveals when the maintenance and service work is due and fuel levels. The driver will also learn if the sunroof and windows have been closed properly.
However, it's for the excellent driving abilities that really help set the X3 apart from its rivals with the firm's ‘driving experience control’ fitted as standard means it's easy to switch between dynamic modes and fuel-efficient modes when driving. The X3 also has a sportier driving experience thanks to its excellent chassis technology and for those opting for the xDrive all-wheel drive system, then the driving dynamics have been further improved.
Essentially, the new BMW X3 delivers a practical and competent SUV with lots of comfort, equipment and space on board so the X3’s winning combination has been polished and drivers will be reassured that they have an accomplished and enjoyable car to drive.
