Since its launch nearly 10 years ago, the BMW 1 Series has proved to be extremely popular for this carmaker and they have managed to shift nearly two million models in that time.

The revamped car builds on this winning formula and incorporates new engines and some very subtle design tweaks to the interior and exterior.

Buyers of the BMW 1 Series can enjoy a vehicle that is packed with a higher level of equipment as standard than was the case previously and there are also new models added to the range.

In addition, the revised 1 Series also comes with BMW’s ConnectedDrive which, among other features, will call the emergency services in the event of an accident.

Economy for the BMW 1 Series

The new model also comes with a range of EfficientDynamics to help boost fuel economy.

Alongside brake energy regeneration, there’s also electric power steering, a gearshift change indicator and an automatic stop-start function.

Standard kit also includes the firm’s Eco Pro mode which offers drivers a coasting function.

Opt for the fitted satnav and it will come with the BMW proactive driving assistance function which will inform the driver went to take their foot from the throttle ahead of roundabouts, corners and speed limits to help slow the car down without the need to brake.

Exterior design tweaks include changes to the headlights and Bonnie and some aerodynamic improvements.

Trims and equipment for the BMW 1 Series

With three trims to choose from, standard kit includes keyless engine ignition, remote central locking, heated exterior mirrors and the firm’s driving experience control switch.

There’s also a multifunction leather steering wheel, automatic air con, a rain sensor and automatic driving lights, along with Bluetooth connectivity for the infotainment system.

Other models in the BMW 1 Series range come with larger alloy wheels, a black high gloss interior trim, ambient lighting, a sports steering wheel and seats, sports suspension and sports styling.

As you would expect, there’s a fairly comprehensive options list including two zone automatic air con, electric adjustable seats, a heated steering wheel and a better hi-fi system that has 12 loudspeakers and an amplifier.

However, most people will be interested in the engine range and they won’t be disappointed.

The models come with the latest four-cylinder BMW engines or their new generation three cylinder units; all of them are impressive.

Perhaps the choice of them all will be the 160d, a 1.5 litre three cylinder unit, which produces 116HP and 270Nm of torque.

This sprightly unit will deliver 79mpg and has CO2 emissions of just 94g/km while sprinting from 0 to 62 mph in 10.3 seconds.

The new BMW 1 Series goes on sale at the end of March with prices starting at £20,245 for the three door 118i SE.
