For the first time Volkswagen has introduced a petrol BlueMotion engine into its VW Polo range and it’s a cracking offering with a 1.0 litre unit returning 69 mpg.

However, the diesel BlueMotion engine for the VW Polo will return an even more impressive 91mpg.

Having said that, the 1.0 litre petrol engine really is an impressive offering with just 94g/km of CO2 emissions, the three cylinder engine will power the car from 0 to 62 mph in just over 10 seconds.

The top speed is 119 mph and it’s available to order now for £14,730 with deliveries beginning in March.

Kit for the new VW Polo BlueMotion

Buyers can enjoy lots of extra kit on board the VW Polo BlueMotion which is based on the range’s S trim.

There’s a styling pack which includes unique bumpers, radiator grille, rear roof spoiler and side skirts. There’s also body coloured door handles and mirrors with integrated indicators and front fog lights.

Other kid on this BlueMotion model includes alloy wheels with low rolling resistance tyres, a multifunction leather steering wheel, aero body kit, air con, remote central locking and a front armrest.

Volkswagen has also added its driver alert system, cruise control and an impressive infotainment system.

VW Polo ‘Think Blue Trainer’

The carmaker has also added its Think Blue Trainer which help owners drive more economically by giving tips and hints on how to improve their motoring style.

Alongside this new petrol BlueMotion, is a 1.4 litre three cylinder diesel TDI unit that will return just over 92 mpg while having CO2 emissions of 82g/km. The diesel unit will produce 75PS from its sprightly engine.

The impressive performance figures for this VW supermini are down to the excellent levels of engineering for its new engines.

The petrol unit, which uses a five-speed manual gearbox, will deliver 95PS between 5,000 and 5,500 rpm. Its maximum torque is 118Nm between 1,000 and 3,500 rpm.

Standard kit for the new cars, includes DAB radio, a colour touchscreen and SD and USB connections.
