The all-new Ford S-Max has been unveiled and while a lot has been improved, Ford hasn’t tinkered too much with what has been a winning people carrier formula.

The S-Max builds on the winning appeal of the model it replaces and adds more space, more equipment and better engines.

For anyone who needs a seven-seater the S-Max is the best in the sector.

Ford S-Max has style and agility

Ford calls this a ‘sports activity vehicle’ and it provides seven passengers with plenty of space on board while the vehicle delivers the agility of a small car.

The Ford S-Max is also the first Blue Oval in Europe to have adaptive steering on board – this is a system that optimises steering response by continually changing the ratio between the steering and road wheels relevant to the vehicle speed. It will make negotiating twisty roads more enjoyable.

There’s also the firm’s impressive new 1.5 litre EcoBoost petrol engine under the bonnet, and an improved 2.0 litre TDCi diesel unit to choose from a wide range of engines and power outputs.

Lots of ‘firsts’ for the Ford S-Max

Other firsts include dynamic LED headlight with glare-free high beam (which means other road users will not be dazzled) and the S-Max’s pre-collision assist technology is a first for the segment.

In total, the Ford S-Max will offer owners 32 load space and seating combinations and a facility to easily fold the middle and third row of seats.

There’s also a dedicated rear area climate system to help improve comfort levels and multi-contour seats for the driver seat passenger.

Ford is also introducing a voice control connectivity system, the Sync2, which utilises an 8-inch high resolution touchscreen in the console to operate the phone, climate and navigation systems as well the entertainment system.

Drivers can also call up a list of local restaurants by simply saying ‘I am hungry’!

Among the many safety features installed is a pre-collision assist technology which will help mitigate the impact of an accident, even at motorway speeds.

The Ford S-Max is aimed at those who would never typically buy a people carrier but with its improved dynamic driving experience and high levels of kit, the vehicle has a lot to offer a wide range of potential owners.

The Ford S-Max, which was the Car of the Year in 2007, has been unquestionable success for the firm with 400,000 units sold in Europe and with the latest incarnation this success looks sure to continue.
