Nissan says the new engine matches the car’s smart technology and bold design, and it has low emissions and good fuel economy – its performance should match that from a four-cylinder 1.6 litre petrol engine.

The DIG-S – which stands for ‘Direct Injection Gasoline – Supercharged’ – will return around 66mpg on the combined cycle and produce CO2 emissions of 99g/km.

That’s quite a good performance for an engine which also produces a lot of torque, and is a nippy performer. The supercharger is also fitted with an electronic clutch that will disconnect itself from the Nissan Note’s engine when not needed.

In addition, the Nissan Note has had its chassis revised in the top model to help produce a more dynamic road performance. The firm has also tweaked the dampers, roll bars and introduced new springs and altered the steering settings to ensure there is little or no body roll.

There’s also a new optional styling pack being announced for the Nissan Note which costs £800 to give owners the opportunity of creating a more distinctive appearance for their Nissan Note.

For instance, the Nissan Note DIG-S has the firm’s ‘Safety Shield’ fitted to help make it a safe car by using sensors and cameras to constantly monitor around the vehicle.

These include lane departure warning, moving object detection alerts and a blind spot warning while the car is being driven

Prices for the impressive Nissan Note DIG-S, which is on sale now, start at £14,495 which is a £1,000 premium over the non-supercharged 1.2 litre engine version.
