Porsche Boxter review: new model unveiled

Have you got yours yet? The new topless Porsche Boxster was launched at the weekend as a new benchmark for the marque.

This new generation is not only the fastest Porsche Boxster ever; it’s also lighter, more efficient and more agile than before but the price tag still starts at £37,589.

Porsche says its new generation will win over customers with its all-new lightweight body, new flat-six engines with direct petrol injection, a completely revised chassis and evolutionary styling.

For those who like open-topped sports cars will find the Porsche Boxter S model has some agile handling thanks to its mid-engined layout which brings poise and balance.

There’s a lot of new stuff on this Porsche Boxter: it’s less thirsty too with its 2.7litre engine (based on the established 3.4litre version) delivering 36.7mpg.

The new Porsche Boxter will do 0-62mph in 5.5secs while the Porsche Boxter S will do it in just 4.8secs.

Like other marques in recent times, Porsche has taken some inspiration from its past with various design nods to the legendary Porsche 550 Spyder and 718 RS from the fifties and sixties and some subtle cues from modern-day icons like the Porsche Carrera GT.

It’s an all-electric hood which stows away quite nicely and the Porsche Boxster S starts at £45,384, though take it from me that the leasing packages available will make ownership a lot cheaper than actually buying one.
