Ford’s retail car sales were also up for April and for the year-to-date, compared with 2012.

The Ford Fiesta 2013 was the retail sales leader, continuing to outsell its nearest small car rival by more than two to one.

In a competitive market that’s an impressive sales dominance and the Ford Focus took up the number two slot.

That’s according to the official sales figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) which has taken up a strong lead over its nearest competitor.

In addition, the firm’s B-Max was the top seller in its segment and the Ford Transit is the UK’s sixth best-selling vehicle.

With a total of 8,083 registrations, the small hatchback Ford Fiesta was the UK best seller in April – 1,999 sales ahead of its nearest rival.  On retail sales alone the Fiesta’s lead is even more significant at 2,733 registrations.

In April, the Ford B-Max secured leadership of its segment with 1,442 sales, accounting for one in four sales.

There’s no doubt the Ford Fiesta is a cracking car and we’ve said so on this blog but it’s going to be a better car to lease because the ownership costs will come down.
