Weight Loss For Blokes

This might be a bit too new man.  I think new men are probably old hat now. Haven’t heard the term spoken nor seen it written for a while….. Anyway weight loss seems to be woman’s preoccupation. Most slimming products and groups are patronised by and or mostly aimed at women. they seem to be on diets more often than men.

Men who are seen to take care of their figure or appearance can be stereotyped as gay.  I think this is something that ordinary blokes should care more about. As you get older and drive more where once you would have walked and you stop going to the gym or give up sports the pounds start piling on. Your six pack metamorphoses into a Watney’s Red Barrell.  Your chiseled jaw sags into multiple drooping chins.  How do we reverse this decline.

I discovered about 18 months ago that i was tipping the scales at 17 stone 10. My blood pressure was 170 over 110. I felt i was one hop ahead of the undertaker.

A threatened increase in my blood pressure medication made me decide to take action. almost simultaneously my daughter learned to ride her bicycle.  I thought i could run to keep up with her. I couldn’t, so I got a new bike to keep up with her.

I followed a diet from one of the big slimming clubs. It’s still mostly women that go there.  I think there have never been more than about 3 or 4 blokes at any one time out of a group of 30 or so.

The eating programme lets you eat a lot of food.  You can eat unlimited amounts of  lean meat, poultry without the skin, fish, potatoes, rice, dry pasta, eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables and fat free or very low fat yoghurt.  You get a daily allowance of bread or cereal and dairy products. And a daily allowance of foods and drinks that are more likely to be fattening. (booze, bread,chocolates, crisps proceesed meats etc)   You are quite restricted on these.

I’ve calculated that  you could eat bacon and eggs for breakfast (fat trimmed off cooked in fry light) couple of slices of wholemeal toast, potatoes/rice pasta/ meat and veg or varying mixtures for lunch and dinner, your dairy, product fruit for snacks and you could wash that down with half a bottle of wine per day and still lose weight.  You might become an alky in the process but there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.

What is wrong with old hat’s anyway.
