The power is delivered using a single-speed transmission and the battery comes with a 100,000 miles, or eight years warranty.

The new Kona Electric is also packed with equipment including smartphone compatibility, 10 years of map updates for the satnav, as well as a rear-view camera and rear parking sensors.

Drivers also get to enjoy keyless entry, smart adaptive cruise control and a stop/go function.

Other models feature heated front seats, ambient cabin lighting, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance and blind-spot collision avoidance.

The better spec models also feature front parking sensors, power folding mirrors, a wireless device charging point and automatic screen wipers.

The range-topper also has an electric tilt and slide sunroof, leather upholstery and a head-up display.

0% Benefit-in-Kind tax rate

Prices for the new Kona Electric start at £33,125 and have a 0% Benefit-in-Kind tax rate to make them very attractive to company car drivers.

The most expensive model costs £40,375 and all Kona Electric cars come with the firm’s five-year unlimited mileage warranty, roadside assistance and annual health check for five years.

Hyundai has also fitted a premium audio system to the vehicle and the bold new look will turn heads.
