The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid has a new battery for a longer all-electric range which will help boost its contract hire car appeal.

A greater electric range is being promised for the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid with a new battery.

The E-Hybrid currently uses a 14.1kWh battery but this has been replaced with a 17.9kWh battery.

Porsche says this will boost the all-electric range by 30% so the E-Hybrid can drive up to 30 miles on battery power.

The Cayenne E-Hybrid uses a 134bhp electric motor that is powered by the 17.9kWh battery to help deliver the responsive drive.

The electric motor is mated to a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol unit to offer a combined output of 456bhp.

This power for the Porsche Cayenne will see it sprinting to 62 mph in just five seconds – and then on to a top speed of 157 mph.

Porsche claims that the new offering will see drivers enjoy fuel economy of 91mpg with emissions of just 71g/km.

The new battery has also been fitted to the Porsche Cayenne S E-Turbo Hybrid, which is the range topper, with a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine.

Its power is boosted by the electric motor to produce 671bhp.

Porsche says that the sprint time for this Cayenne is just 3.8 seconds – with a top speed of 183 mph. The power is delivered using an excellent eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic gearbox.

Again, there’s impressive fuel economy of 74mpg, with emissions of 86g/km.

The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid has a useful smartphone app to help drivers access various functions, including being able to specify the air-conditioning setting before they reach the car.

They can also define the battery charging time when necessary, and the car comes supplied with charging cables for using a domestic supply or a public Mode 3 charging station.

The Cayenne E-Hybrid also features driving modes, including an ‘E-Charge’ mode so the petrol engine will help charge the battery during a journey.

This will occur when the battery power has been reduced to 80% with the aim of quickly recharging the battery – since 0-80% charging is done at a slower pace.

The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid offers a great car leasing opportunity with prices starting at £67,000 for the plug-in model, and a reasonably low Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rate.
