One of the UK’s most popular cars is going electric and the new Vauxhall Corsa-e is going to break down barriers.

This is the excellent all-new electric Vauxhall Corsa, known as the Corsa-e.

The order books have opened for the impressive new Corsa-e and the small car has an all-electric range of 205 miles and will, with a fast charger, recharge its battery in 30 minutes.

The first 500 reservations for the Corsa-e come with a free home charging kit.

Vauxhall says the fully electric Corsa-e will be the flag bearer for its new Corsa range.

Vauxhall Corsa-e’s motor

The Vauxhall Corsa-e’s motor will sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just over eight seconds and produce 136 PS from its 50 kW battery.

It’s this kind of responsive performance that may boost the appeal of electric cars to those who have never considered one previously.

It’s built on the firm’s new CMP multi-energy platform which delivers agility and performance – the whole package is geared at helping to make the electric Corsa-e ‘more normal’ for those who usually buy petrol and diesel car buyers which is why the battery can be recharged in just 30 minutes.

It will also boost interest, and sales, to know that the Corsa-e’s battery will have at least 70% of its capacity maintained by warranty for eight years or 100,000 miles.

Another interesting feature for the Corsa-e is that the range can be extended by up to 40% by using the eco driving mode.

There are three modes to choose from – eco, sports and normal.

In normal mode, the battery will deliver 205 miles of driving range, while sport delivers more performance and responsiveness and the driving range will be reduced by around 10%.

The new Vauxhall Corsa-e will cost from £26,490, which includes the government’s plug-in car grant of £3,500 and there will be a lot of interest in a well-designed and responsive electric car.
