It has an all-new look, new engines and is packed with technology and the carmaker says the Fiat 500X is the ‘next generation’ of crossover SUV.

The exterior has also been refreshed with new LED headlights and rear lights with the cabin getting more technology too.

There’s also improved ergonomics and a refreshed interior to make the cabin a pleasant place to be.

The car also has new driver assistance technology, including lane assist, speed sign recognition and speed advisor fitted as standard.

The engines for the new Fiat 500X

The engines for the new Fiat 500X include the firm’s next generation of three and four cylinder turbocharged petrol units that deliver better fuel economy than the predecessors do.

Fiat says its new engines strike a balance for those drivers who are looking for economy but also great driving performance.

They say the engines have undergone 75,000 hours of virtual testing along with 60,000 hours of real-life working.

The three cylinder 1.0 litre unit delivers 120 HP and is mated to a six speed manual gearbox. A four-cylinder 1.3 litre engine delivers 150 HP and has a six speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

Driving assistance systems in the Fiat 500X

The driving assistance systems in the Fiat 500X will help keep drivers safe and connected.

Along with the standard features mentioned previously, options include city brake control, adaptive cruise control and blind spot alert.

The standard speed advisor kit works by using a camera to monitor traffic signs and then adapt the car’s speed to comply.

As with all modern cars, the 500X has excellent connectivity with Fiat’s new Uconnect infotainment system which has a high-res 7-inch touchscreen, along with audio streaming, a Bluetooth interface, a voice recognition function and text reader.

There’s a lot to recommend the 500X, it’s built on an excellent platform to deliver lots of space in the cabin and good handling abilities.

There’s also an off-road look version, the City Cross, which uses 17-inch alloy wheels, body coloured door mirrors and chrome inserts to give it a more rugged appeal.
