The refreshed Mercedes GLE delivers an impressive vehicle packed with innovation that will help the trendsetter to continue its popularity.

Among the additions is an electrically controlled active suspension system, a world first the firm claims, with an active stop-and-go assist system which works in heavy traffic.

Also, the interior is more comfortable and spacious and there is the option of a third row of seats.

From 2019, the Mercedes GLE’s engines will be completely new and a plug-in hybrid is planned for later next year.

The new engines will consist of in-line six cylinder petrol units and a few diesels.

From launch, the GLE 450 4Matic petrol unit has an engine that will return around 34 mpg and produces 367 HP.

All variants will be mated to the firm’s 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox to help deliver ride comfort and fuel efficiencies.

Also the Mercedes GLE has an improved infotainment system featuring larger screens and a full-colour head-up display.

There’s also an interior assistant system which is operated by the driver using arm and hand movements.

The aerodynamics have also been improved with some refreshing of the exterior design.

The GLE was unveiled in 2015 and the new model will be officially unveiled at the Paris motor show in October.

The new SUV has a longer wheelbase, it’s been extended by around 80 mm, which means the interior has much more space. The second row of seats is also electrically adjustable.

As drivers should expect, there’s a lot of luxury on board with a well-designed cabin, leather surfaces, good ergonomics and flush fitting roller blinds to some windows.

Pricing for the impressive new Mercedes GLE will be revealed in a few months with the first models arriving in the UK in spring next year.
