While they may be entering a fiercely competitive segment, the new Hyundai Kona diesel and electric models have been priced to gain attention.

Prices for the 1.6 CRDi diesel powered version cost from £19,750, while for the electric model, the prices start at £29,495 and that doesn’t involve include the plug-in car grant of £4,500.

Both models come with lots of equipment and safety kit including lane keeping assist, driver attention alert and hill start assist.

Options include autonomous emergency braking and lots of connectivity.

Engines and motor for the Hyundai Kona

The engines and motor for the Hyundai Kona include a new 1.6 litre diesel engine which delivers emissions of 111g/km and fuel economy of 67mpg.

The engine produces 115 PS and is coupled to a six speed manual gearbox or for the more powerful 136 PS version, there’s a seven speed dual clutch transmission available.

For the electric model, there’s a 39 kWh version available producing the equivalent of 135 PS or an 64 kWh motor producing 204 PS. Hyundai say that the driving range for the new electric version is 300 miles.

The Hyundai Kona Electric now joins the Ioniq family and will be offered along with the upcoming Nexo as the firm says it will deliver 18 new electric models by 2025.

There are some styling tweaks to the front of the electric version, including a closed grille for the charging point, which incorporates a re-designed front bumper featuring active air flaps.

The electric model also features a rear view camera with rear parking sensors, automatic lights, climate control and Bluetooth connectivity.

The top end of the new diesel Kona range features lots of premium equipment including leather seats which have heating and ventilation, heated steering wheel and front parking sensors.

There’s also a head-up display and a choice of eight body colours with a well-designed interior.

The new Hyundai Kona diesel and electric cars comes with a five year unlimited mileage warranty, along with a five-year annual health check and a roadside assistance package.
