It’s the firm’s bestseller in the UK and now the Kia Sportage has been refreshed with a new exterior design and updated interior.

There’s also new infotainment technologies and safety features with the engines being fully compliant for future emissions standards.

Engines for the new Kia Sportage have also been revised with a new efficient 1.6 litre U3 diesel unit being introduced as well as a 2.0 litre diesel mild hybrid.

The new EcoDynamic+ 48V mild hybrid engine is the first of Kia’s plan to introduce electrification and it’s the first carmaker to introduce a hybrid, a battery-electric, a plug-in hybrid as well as 48 volt mild hybrid choices across its full model range.

The current 1.7 litre CRDi unit diesel unit has been replaced with a more efficient 1.6 litre U3 CRDi engine and Kia says it’s the cleanest diesel unit it has ever made.

For those who are interested, the 1.6 litre diesel unit will produce 115 PS or 136 PS with the higher powered versions available with seven speed double clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.

The Kia Sportage has been popular with buyers, the carmaker sold more than 131,000 models last year in Europe which accounted for 25% of all of its sales. It is also popular in the UK with nearly 40,000 models being delivered last year.

The exterior redesign includes new rear and front bumpers as well as redesigned lamps plus the alloy wheels have been refreshed.

The cabin also features better refinement with a revised instrument cluster and a new steering wheel. There’s also new black and grey upholstery with the ‘GT-Line’ models coming with two tone leather seats.

The new Kia Sportage also has a raft of the latest driver assistance systems being added including an around view monitor to enable easier parking plus driver attention warning that will help fight driver fatigue while behind the wheel. There’s also smart cruise control featuring Stop&Go.

In the UK, there’s also a choice of infotainment systems that feature a 7-inch touchscreen or a new 8-inch ‘frameless’ infotainment system.

While the on sale date and full spec and pricing details have yet to be revealed, the new Kia Sportage will continue to sell well with an excellent warranty package included.
