The aim is to keep this sub-compact car among the best in its competitive class and is available as a five- or three door coupe.

Among the new design features is a two-tone roof, updated rear end and a cascading grille and there are more exterior colours to help with personalisation.

The engine line-up for the new Hyundai i20 features three petrol units but no diesel choice.

There is a 1.0 litre T-GDI unit with two power outputs which is coupled to a five-speed gearbox with the more powerful engine having the option of a six speed manual gearbox. Drivers can also opt for a 1.2 litre engine which produces 75PS or 84PS and is mated to a five speed box.

All engines features Stop and Go to help improve fuel economy – particularly around town. The 1.0 litre engine also features a particulate filter to help boost its environmental performances.

Hyundai have also boosted the driving experience and there’s a seven speed dual clutch transmission added to the range.

The safety features for the new Hyundai i20 include the firm’s Smartsense active safety system which includes driver attention warning, lane departure warning and autonomous emergency braking.

Other connectivity features include a 7-inch display system which can be used with Android Auto or Apple Car Play.

Hyundai say they are responding to customer demands so the fresh design incorporates more safety features and more efficient petrol engines.

Among the options is for a panoramic sunroof and a two tone roof. There are eight exterior colours to choose from.
